National School Bus Inspection Training - Day 1
Location: Indiana Convention Center & Brownsburg Community School Corporation
Instructors: Bobby Williams, Asst. Director Fleet Services, Cy-Fair ISD, Jannet Malig, Long Beach (California) Clean Cities, Derek Bryant, Nat. Institute for Automotive Srv Excellence, Alan Fidler, MSD of Lawrence Township
Description: Developed by school bus maintenance and inspection expert Marshall Casey, STN EXPO offers the National School Bus Inspection Training Program to fully train technicians on how to conduct regular vehicle inspections, above and beyond state or federal Department of Transportation guidance. The eight-hour program held in a classroom on Friday, May 31 and at a school bus facility on Saturday, June 1, is derived from best practices used in overseeing the maintenance of school buses in South Carolina, the only completely owned and operated state fleet in the nation. Attendees will learn how to discover more defects prior to failure, which allows for expedited repairs, increased vehicle uptime, and a more efficient maintenance program. The program includes eight hours of classroom instruction at the Indiana Convention Center, including a written exam, and a second day of hands-on identification of defects on real school buses, hosted by Brownsburg Community School Corporation. New this year is a detailed overview of the differences with electric school buses. Transportation to and from Brownsburg provided by Miller Transportation.
*This program requires separate registration. (Maximum of 50 participants)

Lab 3: What’s Smarter Than AI? You, Backed by Tyler Tools
Speakers: Weston Bartlett & Mike Ciarmiello
Description: In the age of AI, it’s common to feel your experience is becoming undervalued or obsolete as technology advances. We beg to differ — while you need tools that are smart and dynamic, they should be built to complement your expertise, keeping you in the driver’s seat.
Tyler has a history of staying ahead of the curve, introducing many of the industry’s first integrated solutions and investing in improvements instead of chasing trends. But what’s the difference between our smart tools and AI? Flexibility. Our tools feel so smart and intuitive that they seem like AI, but you’re the one in control. Join us to see how our dynamic routing, onboard tablets, and parent communication mobile app can be customized with your knowledge — leveraging your insights to suit your district’s unique needs.
In this lab, we’ll discuss common scenarios you might encounter and show you ways to handle them with our connected dynamic solutions. Do these sound familiar?
- There’s a delay on a route, and you need to send a notification only to parents/students at the remaining stops
- More students enrolled in summer school than expected, and you need to create new, efficient routes quickly
- A pre-trip inspection revealed an issue, and you need to communicate internally and externally to keep your runs on schedule
- You use multiple vendors to keep your operations safe and efficient, and you need data to flow seamlessly between those sources
Attend this session to see our software and hardware in action, understand the potential impact of their integrations, and discover how Tyler solutions can support you and your operations — helping you navigate any challenge, so you can keep your eyes on the road ahead.
